Q4/2018 - 4th Meeting of the Global Commission on the Future of Work (ILO)

The Global Commission on the Future of Work held its 4th and last meeting on 18 November 2018 in Geneva. Guided by its two co-chairs, the Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and the President of the Republic of South Africa Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, the Commission discussed the preliminary draft of its final report. The report will be published in January 2019, discussed in the ILO member states, and passed on to the 100-year-anniversary conference of ILO in summer 2019. The core piece of the report is recommendations how to guarantee “decent and sustainable work” for all. The key issues include chapters on youth employment, skills mismatch, income inequality, informality, the rural economy, the digital divide and gender equality, lifelong learning, social protection, technology and the institutions of work, including the role of social dialogue”.
