Q4/2018 - NATO, Meeting of Defence Ministers

Brussels, 4 and 5 October 2018

At the NATO Defence Ministers‘ Meeting on 4 and 5 October 2018 in Brussels, the cyber attacks on Great Britain and the Netherlands (with the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons resident at Den Haag) attributed to Russia were on the agenda. The cyber defence strategy enhanced at the NATO Summit in July 2018 was supplemented by additional concrete conclusions, such as advancing the establishment of the Cyberspace Operations Centre and building new Counter Hybrid Support Teams. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg assured Great Britain and the Netherlands of NATO’s support. He requested Russia to stop its cyber attacks and emphasised that NATO was continuing to strengthen its defence and deterrence in the cyber domain.
