Q4/2018 - Freedom House Annual Report

The Annual Report prepared by Freedom House on the state of global Internet freedom draws a sobering conclusion with regard to the developments in 2018. For the eighth time in a row, the number of states restricting Internet freedom is increasing. In 26 of the 65 countries, which account for over 80 percent of Internet users, the situation had deteriorated in 2018. Freedom House concludes that Digital Authoritarianism is spreading worldwide. The report includes 16 recommendations to governments, businesses and citizens how to counteract an authoritarian Internet controlled by the state or the private sector and how to promote freedom on the Internet.
