Q1/2020 - EuroDIG

Preparatory Meeting, Trieste, 16 January 2020

At the preparatory meeting for the 13th European Internet Governance Forum (EuroDIG) in Trieste on 16 January 2020 a consolidated draft program was confirmed.

The overarching theme of EURODIG 2020 reads “Towards a sustainable governance of the Internet”. Four plenary sessions are planned on the key topics 5G, digital sovereignty, a digital strategy for Europe as well as on climate, sustainability and digitalisation. Added to this are twelve workshops and eleven seminars on “Day Zero”.

On 20 February 2020, the EuroDIG preparatory committee announced that in view of the fact that Trieste, the place of the next EuroDIG, is located in the north of Italy, a COVID-19 high-risk region, and that the venue, the campus of the ICTP, has been closed by the Italian government until further notice, EuroDIG 2020 may be held as a virtual meeting. Following the model of the ICANN Meeting in Cancun, however, most of the planned plenary sessions and workshops will take place. The program planning – including wikis and mailing lists – continues. Should EuroDIG 2020 be held as an online meeting, Trieste would be ready to host the 14th EuroDIG in 2021[1].
