Research project “Artificial Intelligence and Freedom of Expression”, 17 June 2020

The OSCE has continued its work on its new research project “Artificial Intelligence and Freedom of Expression”. A high-level virtual conference of experts is being prepared for 6 July 2020. In a video statement of 17 June 2020, an expert on the research project, Ingrid Brodnig, explained how autonomous bots and the use of algorithms can influence public discourse and pluralism on the Internet. Ingrid Brodnig is Austria’s Digital Champion for the European Commission[1].

Cyber security seminar, 12 June 2020

On 12 June 2020, the OSCE organised a seminar on cyber security under the conditions of the pandemic in the home office. Topics discussed included cyber hygiene, risks connected to fraud, manipulation in social networks and sexual abuse of children on the Internet. Around 50 representatives of governments and civil society participated in the seminar[2].
